Today I would like to share a little background on something I was introduced to this summer. It is a great resource that a colleague told me about. Their goal is to profile certain industries in which people (mostly students) would be interested in interning. They then take the next step to profile specific companies that have great internship programs, they may profile a past intern and share his or her testimony about their internship experience and they also highlight certain cities. Intern Memo also serves as a guidance resource in that they offer advice for job interviews, tips on writing cover letters, how to impress a future boss and so much more. All of this very helpful information is accessible via email newsletter, facebook group messages and/or frequent visits to their website
Sign up for the newsletter. There are even some good tips for industry veterans. You have the opportunity to select the cities you would like your internship newsletters to focus on as well as the industry of your choice. www.internmemo.com Check it out!!!

What now, Gmail?

It seems that every day Google comes up with something new and innovative to keep it in the spotlight. I recently made my iGoogle page that allows me to customize my Google homepage with whatever content I want!!! It's exciting to see what recipes or Spanish word-of-the-day will pop up on my Google homepage each day :) Additionally, I am a HUGE fan of Gmail. In fact, by fan, I think I mean addict. No day passes where I have not been on my Gmail account millions of times and love it every time I log on. I am also an avid user of Google Talk

an AOL instant messenger-type application that allows me to chat with my friends who are also addicted to Gmail! I recently found out that now I can add all of my AIM buddies on to my Google Talk buddy list...HOW COOL??

The model CSR program

In one of my recent Ethics in Public Relations classes, Paul Capelli, current member of the Arthur W. Page Society and the VP of Public Relations for Staples Inc. spoke about Staples' newest CSR (Corporate Social Responsiblity) intiatives. Staples Soul is a new innovative mission on Staples behalf. As a direct quote from their mission statement:
"What's Staples Soul?"
"Staples Soul reflects our commitment to corporate responsibility. It's a holistic approach to business that recognizes the close connection between our financial success and our desire to make a positive impact on our associates, communities, and the planet by joining together the following areas: diversity, the environment, our community, and ethics. It's how we do business—that's Staples Soul."

By applying CSR in these four areas, Staples makes it a point to involve itself with the community in many different and essential ways. I think more corporations should think about Staples CSR initiatives and apply it to help the community and the environment.

TIME Person of the Year 2006

As I posted about previously, above it a YouTube clip that shows managing editor of TIME magazine speaking about the Person of the Year, 2006 concept. Innovative? I think so...

Branding Ourselves

I recently came across an archived article from Fast Company's August 1997 issue. My first thought was how outdated this article about "branding" would be. After all, it was written 10 years ago. The article titled "A Brand Called You" was actually SO relevant to today's world and the "age of the individual". It reminded me of Time Magazine's award for person of the year as YOU and how the Internet has made such contributions to today's society. Don Hinchcliffe made a very interesting post on Time's award in his blog on Social Computing magazine. There is a whole notion in the Fast Company about branding ourselves to be the CEO of Me Inc. In general, Fast Company is known to be a great resource for career advice and as I will be looking for jobs soon ;) the concept of thinking of my own brand is exciting. What makes someone who they are and what is it they might stand for? When you walk out of an interview, how would you like to be remembered? What is one thing that is specific to only you, as a brand? All questions to think about...

Welcome to the blogosphere Elise...

Welcome to The Scoop Gal where I will be posting on whatever it is that is on my mind, in the news or whatever I feel like writing about. Let me know if you have any suggestions as I am new to the blogging world and am looking forward to meeting many of you in the blogosphere. I found some great resources for new bloggers and some blogging tips for beginners which are both very helpful! Before I start out with a specific niche, how can I decide what that niche should be?
